Waitrose posts an increase of 7.7% in sales for Christmas week

UK-based supermarket chain Waitrose has recorded a 7.7% increase in like-for-like sales for the seven day Christmas shopping period ending 24 December 2012.

The chain has also announced a year-on-year increase of 4.3% for the seven week period before the Christmas Eve along with escalated online revenues of 37%.

Commenting on the record sales, Waitrose managing director Mark Price stated that the inspiring and innovative products led to increase in sales volume.

"More promotions, Brand Price Match and our essential Waitrose range mean that customers feel confident about our prices.

"Trade in the seven days before Christmas was remarkable, with 23rd December proving our busiest Sunday on record," concluded Price.
