We asked Bord Bia for a summary of some exotic locations where Irish food was consumed this Christmas. The following is just a sample:
Germany
German chefs prefer Irish beef cheeks to German beef cheeks because during processing Irish beef cheeks are not cut or slit.
Irish organic beef is used in the German baby food manufacturer HIPP's baby range, primarily because of the very low levels of residues present in the meat that was tested.
The Burren Smokehouse Irish Organic Smoked Salmon is sold in the food hall of the premium and very exclusive Berlin department store, KaDeWe.
The Netherlands
The Dutch love their raw Irish beef especially round Christmas. They also eat secondary cuts raw like the bavette (shin).
Spain
Irish beef fillets and brown crab meat will be enjoyed as part of the traditional Christmas Eve dinner. Irish beef exports to Spain will exceed the 14,000t (cwe) this year and seafood exports will be valued in more than €64m.
USA
Flahavan's Oatmeal is accessible in Cincinnati - Flahavan's are attempting to take on the USA (still early stages, but well planned). Flahavan's recently launched three new products in the US and is currently building its presence in the market with increased distribution and listings. Flahavan's is sold in Moscow in specialty shops and is being marketed by these shops as Christmas gifts.
