UK-based meat processing company Cranswick Country Foods is set to establish a new pork packing plant in Hull, a move which is expected to create 100 jobs.

This move comes after the company secured a £30m contract to supply pork products to a national supermarket chain, reports the bbc.co.uk.

As a part of the expansion plan, the company purchased the former Fishgate building in the city's William Wright Dock.

Cranswick Country Foods Pork Processing manager Chris Aldersley said that the Fishgate building will be suitable for the company to convert to retail packaging as it is a high standard food processing facility.

The company will contribute to the local economy and provides employment to the local community, added Aldersley.

The new facility will open by the end of March. It is expected to initially create 100-120 retail packing jobs, with scope for additional jobs in the future.

Fishgate was a £5.5m fish auction house which was unveiled in 2001. It was closed two years ago over lack of fish supplies.

Cranswick Country Foods employs about 5,000 people across the region and supplies 25% of the UK's premium pork products.
