Until the end of last year the situation in the chicory market was good, but at the moment it's calm. "It's just running its course. There's a lot of supply and the prices are low," says Rudi Coosemans. "Until before New Year the prices were great, but they've gradually fallen. This has been going on for a number of weeks and the expectations are that it will continue for a while. I've heard it said all round in the sector."
According to the trader this is fairly normal for this time of year. "At the end of last year there were a lot of deals in the supermarkets, but they're quiet at the moment. This is in the inland market. Our export is continuing as usual. These sales are generally constant. The price agreements are different." the group Coosemans, specialised in the import and export of fruits and vegetables, is represented world wide, mainly in the United States. Coosemans is also located in the Belgian Kampenhout. The company's speciality is chicory.
