Blue Star Foods on Tuesday announced it received a U.S. patent for method packaging crabmeat in flexible pouches.
The original application for Patent No. 8,337,922 was filed nine years ago.
The pouches have been instrumental in Blue Star’s sales growth in the retail sector and abroad, the company said.
“U.S. patent was our last pending patent to be issued, as we have it in countries that we product crabmeat, all over Europe as well as other countries with significant Blue Star demand,” said John Keeler, Blue Star CEO and CSO. “Our new Blue Star’s eco-fresh pouches design allow us to package the right weight of crabmeat to meet the ‘ring value sweet spot’ of any given retailer. The life cycle analysis found that on a per ounce basis, Blue Star’s eco-fresh pouches consume less energy, emit lower amounts of greenhouse gases and require less waste management than cups.”
