Chattanooga Whiskey, a Tennessee-based whiskey producer, plans to build a new distillery in the former Turnbull Cone Baking building at 14th and Fort Streets, following the approval of a bill by the Tennessee legislation to produce Chattanooga whiskey in the region.
To build the $2m distillery, the company has signed a tentative agreement with Chestnut Street Properties of New Hampshire.
Situated on the National Register of Historic Places, the 30,000ft² building will feature two patios and 5,000ft² event space.
The first-floor of the building will include a tour entrance, where guests can view local historical artifacts, whiskey glasses and the company's pre-Prohibition distilling information. It will also allow guests to view Big Bertha - the 2,000gal copper still arising from underground production area.
First floor will also feature a gift shop, where guests can purchase Chattanooga Whiskey bottles, apparel and memorabilia.
The second and third floors of the building will be used for storing and aging 1,000 standard, vintage-style, 53gal barrels, while on the fourth floor guests can sample whiskeys made at the distillery.
The four floor of the building will start with underground production area, where the company will distill, fill barrels and package the product.
Slated to open by October 2013, the distillery is expected to employ around 15 people.
