Core Tip: In order to boost its aquaculture industry, the Omani Government is seeking help from Brazil.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) is giving aquaculture a major push. With increased output, the ministry hopes to catapult its exports and also serve the local market abundantly.

H E Dr Fuad bin Jaafar bin Mohammed al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, who was the head of the mission of honour for the visiting Vice President of Brazil, Michel Temer, said that Oman's aquaculture sector has already benefited from the vast experience and expertise of Brazil.

“Brazil is one of the largest producers of agri-products in the world, as they have made great advancements in the field. We are benefiting from them already; however, there is room for further expanding partnership, which we will explore in the coming months,” he told the newspaper.

He said that there is a tremendous interest in aquaculture from the private sector, and companies are investing heavily in the sector.

H E Sajwani said that there is an effort to increase exports to Brazil. “In the field of agriculture, we import more than export. But with our strategic plan to expand the fish industry, production through wild catch and aquaculture is going to increase manifold. This will give us room to export outside and to Brazil as well.”
