Robeks, a US-based premium smoothie and juice franchise, has revamped the packaging of its beverages with Earth-friendly recyclable plastic cups in the US.
The smoothie chain will offer its products in the new recyclable plastic cups from this summer 2013, despite the current foam cups.
According to the coampny, the new cups will be developed from polypropylene using less material, 50% less energy to produce. They can easily be recycled many times.
Robeks CEO Steve Davidson said: "We're very excited and pleased to make this switch to help make our planet a healthier place and its resources more sustainable. We hope our competitors follow suit."
Robeks has been serving smoothies and juices to its customers in the foam cups since 1996.
The company uses raw, unprocessed fruits and vegetablesto produce its drinks and claims that they are free of artificial flavors or preservatives.
