UK-based bakery chain Greggs is outlining plans to further its retail network with the launch of 80 stores across the country in 2013.
The chain, which currently operates 1,700 outlets, believes there is scope for 2,000 stores in the UK. Majority of the new bakeries are planned in the Southeast region.
Meanwhile, Greggs is mulling over to extend its business to the online turf in a bid to diversify its retail operations.
Greggs CEO Roger Whiteside told Express that the retailer is keen to foray into e-Commerce, besides confessing that the move is a difficult one.
"Click and collect might work in our environment but it is a question of how we can accommodate it. If there is a way to do it without affecting other customers, then we will certainly consider it," explained Whiteside.
The chain is currently engaged in discussions with landlords to reduce rents for the locations planned for its new coffee shop format.
