The Beijing Agricultural Bureau has spent 500,000 yuan ($81,490) introducing a homemade unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for vegetable protection in Shunyi district. The vehicle will help treat and prevent wheat pests, according to the bureau.
The UAV has a special spray that can spread the minimum level of drugs over cornfields for the purpose of pest control during mid or late stages of wheat development.
It uses one-off drug applications to guard against dry hot wind and stalk lodging. It has also shown significant effectiveness in aphid and powdery mildew treatment and prevention, according to officials.
The plane can prevent crop damage caused by traditional mechanical work and increase economic returns.
