DC Brands International, producer of functional beverages and health products, has purchased a minority stake in US-based Village Tea Company Distribution from Total Apparel Group.

Village Tea Company Distribution is the owner of Village Tea brand of premium loose leaf teas and tea accessories.

DC Brands is also provided with an option to acquire remaining interest in the company in future.

With this acquisition, DC Brands said, the management plans to move its focus from functional water sector to other sectors by acquiring brands and developing strategic partnerships in the Health and Wellness sector.

DC Brands International CFO and CEO Robert Armstrong said that the company seeks to make additional deals.

"DC Brands will provide the finance, accounting and administrative structure to properly manage the explosive growth expected," Armstrong added.

The founder and current president of Village Tea, Martin Ekechukwu, and CEO Janon Costley will continue to hold their positions post acquisition.
