According to potato fan Hu Xianglu, his mother dug up the unusual vegetable from a field next to the family home.
But Mr Xianglu decided it would be insensitive to use if for his dinner.
"As it looks like the popular rubber duck I then put it on my desk hoping to bring me good luck," he explained.
He didn’t say what he plans to do with the unusual spud when it begins to sprout, before turning black.
