The Coca-Cola Co. and the World Wildlife Fund have announced new global environmental sustainability goals to be implemented by 2020.

The goals include:

• Improving water efficiency by 25%
• Ensuring the health and sustainability of freshwater streams
• Reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 25%
• Sourcing materials more sustainably for PlantBottle packaging
• Using more sustainable sources for ingredients such as sugarcane, sugar beet, corn, tea, coffee, palm oil, soy, pulp
• Replenishing all water used
• Achieving a 75% recovery rate of bottles and cans in developed markets.

“As we face a resource-stressed world with growing global demands on food and water, we must seek solutions that drive mutual benefit for business, communities and nature,” said Muhtar Kent, chairman and chief executive officer. “Working with W.W.F. will continue to challenge our company to advance our sustainability programs, and W.W.F.’s expertise will be instrumental in reaching our environmental performance goals, some of which they help us set.”

The World Wildlife Fund has been working in 100 countries for more than 50 years. Its mission is to deliver science-based solutions to preserve diversity and abundance of life on Earth, halt the degradation of the environment and combat climate change.
