CFIA Announces New Deadline in Food Safety Consultations
Report Highlights:
November 30, 2013 is the new deadline announced by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in public consultations on the Agency's compliance promotion initiative, the proposed new regulatory framework for federal food inspection, and the planned outcome-based approach to regulation and inspection.

In a press release issued on July 2, 2013, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced that November 30, 2013 is the deadline by which interested stakeholders can submit their comments on three recent initiatives falling under Canada's Safe Food for Canadians Action Plan :
 CFIA's compliance promotion initiative
 The proposed new regulatory framework for federal food inspection, and
 The planned outcome-based approach to regulation and inspection
FAS/Ottawa most recently reported on these initiatives in the GAIN report no. CA13031 dated June 11, 2013. At that time, there were no firm deadlines for consultations on the compliance promotion and the outcome-based regulation initiatives, while the announced deadline for submitting comments on the new food regulations was October 31, 2013.
More information on these three CFIA initiatives can be found on this web page . As a reminder, consultations on CFIA's food labeling initiative are ongoing and the deadline for submitting comments remains August 30, 2013.
Interested stakeholders are strongly encouraged to get involved in these consultations and submit comments to CFIA by the proposed deadlines.
