The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is consulting with consumer, industry and other stakeholders to identify ways to better address changing consumer expectations and industry needs related to food labeling.

"This initiative demonstrates the Government of Canada's commitment to keep pace with the evolving food labeling environment and implement the best approaches so consumers have the information they need when buying food," said Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz. "The government of Canada is committed to working with all players, including industry and consumers, in this process."

CFIA's review of Canada's food labeling system will address how the agency can provide the best information so that consumers can make knowledgeable choices. CFIA will also examine changes need to enable industry to effectively market their products and communicate with consumers through labels. Consumers, industry and other stakeholders can provide feedback on this initiative through an online consultation available on the CFIA website.
