Tesco has launched a new family-focused restaurant concept at its Extra store in Coventry.
Tapping into the growing popularity of carvery as a family dining option, the new carvery-style restaurant called 'Decks' will offer a beef, pork, gammon or chicken carvery meal for £5.50.
According to the company, the restaurant takes its name from the 'decks' used to present food at the eatery. The decks include a 'breakfast deck', 'carving deck' and a 'pastry deck'.
While Tesco has already acquired play café Giraffe and a stake in coffee chain Harris + Hoole, 'Decks' is the first dining concept to be created from scratch by Tesco. It is owned outright by a new company, called Tesco Family Dining Limited and, should the pilot prove successful, may be rolled out in Tesco stores elsewhere.
Commenting on the launch of the new restaurant, a Tesco spokesperson said, "Decks offers customers fresh food at excellent prices, with lots of great healthy options available. It's a new food concept that we're trialling in our Coventry Arena store and we look forward to seeing what customers think."
