French retailer Carrefour is to open a new Carrefour Market in Vitoria, País Vasco today.
The store, which is located on calle Iruraitz-Gauna, has been designed to offer a 'market place' experience to the consumer through several fresh food departments including a butchery, a delicatessen, a fishmonger and a bakery.
The new store will offer a wide range of local products such as vegetables, Idiazabal cheese, cooked ham and traditional Basque cakes. The new store will also inlcude an international section, which will offer hundreds of goods.
Measuring 1875 m2, Carrefour Market Aretxabaleta will employ some 63 staff. According to the retailer, the store will generate 113 indirect jobs around the area.
Carrefour has been present in the Basque Country since 1979, with its first location at Oiartzun (Gipuzkoa). The retailer currently has five hypermarkets, 18 supermarkets and four Carrefour Markets in the region.
