Core Tip: Glisten plans to transfer a majority of manufacturing at its facility in Skegness to other sites, a move which will put nearly 92 jobs at risk.
Glisten, a leading independent confectionery manufacturer in the UK, plans to transfer a majority of manufacturing at its facility in Skegness to other sites, a move which will put nearly 92 jobs at risk.

The company, which is starting a 45-day consultation with staff at its Skegness plant, plans to transfer the manufacturing to its sites in Leicester and the Czech Republic.

Glisten managing director Mark Adcock said that the company is currently working at very close to capacity at the Skegness site and the company needs to invest further to meet the demands of the major retail customers who are fundamental to its business and continued growth.

"We have looked carefully at all the options, taking into account the cost and feasibility of developing the Skegness site for future growth and the fact that there is spare capacity available at our other production facilities, but we have assured our employees that we are still discussing and considering all available options during the consultation period," Adcock added.

If the transfer proposal goes ahead, all roles at Skegness will be secure until the end of the 2013. The company noted that beyond this date it will ensure that roles will be available to all 92 employees at our other sites within the UK.

If the proposal receives approval following the consultation, the transfer would be carried out by the end of this year. Workers at the Skegness are represented by a staff council.

Glisten, which is part of the Raisio Group, has been established for over 100 years. It manufactures a produces a wide range of private label and branded boiled sweets, gums, jellies, toffees, chocolates and popcorn for UK retailers.
