Ferrero has opened a €90 million plant in the province of Manisa in Turkey, which will manufacture Kinder and Nutella products and employ 200 people.
While the site has an initial production capacity of 30,000 tonnes, Ferrero plans to lift the capacity to 50,000 tonnes in the near future to serve export markets.
When the construction of the factory was announced in 2011, the Nutella maker said that Turkey was a growing market with a young population.
According to Ferrero, the new plant will also bring it closer to key commodities for its products such as hazelnuts, for which Turkey is the world's largest producer.
Overseas markets are likely to eventually include countries in North Africa and the Middle East.
