M&S has Marks & Spenceropened its first food store at a BP petrol station in the Netherlands.

The new forecourt convenience store, which is located in Harmelen, carries an assortment of 7000 fresh goods, including ready meals, fresh sandwiches, flowers and basic groceries.

The luxury food retailer is also planning to introduce a variety of typical British foods to the Dutch, with cheddar cheese, crumpets, scones and smoked salmon on offer in the store.

The new Dutch pilot build on the success of the collaboration between M&S and BP in the UK, with Marks & Spencer Food stores already present at over 160 BP stations in the UK.

Jan Lord, Director of International Marks & Spencer, said, "We have received many positive comments from our Dutch customers since we have returned to our local website and our unique multi -channel store in Amsterdam in the Netherlands in April."

"We are very excited to work with BP to expand our presence in the Netherlands with our first Marks & Spencer Food pilot together. We know that our Dutch customers expectantly look forward to our range of fresh food quality at easily accessible locations, it offers them the perfect choice of foods for home."

M&S & BP are to collaborate on a further six stores in the Netherlands by late November, with the next branch scheduled to open at BP Ypenburg in Rijswijk on 2 October.

M&S opened a store in Amsterdam in April this year after a ten-year absence from the Dutch market.
