Serbia, the number one raspberry producer and exporter, expects the production of this small fruit, known as "red gold" in the country, to increase as a result of the new growing practices being introduced,
According to technicians, greenhouse cultivation and the new varieties being grown to extend the season are two of the factors leading to an increase in production volumes.
Raspberries are mainly grown in the western part of the country; an area with deal conditions for its cultivation, according to the technical team.
Serbia is the world's leading raspberry producer, with an average production of 86,000 tonnes, as well as being the number one exporter (65,000 tonnes), although only 10% is commercialised as fruit for fresh consumption or for processing; the rest is distributed frozen.
