Indian spirits company Kyndal is planning to set up a new malt distillery in Scotland with an investment of £6.7m, a move which will mark the company’s entry into the global market of premium scotch whisky.

The first phase of the project will be concluded in three years.

To be established in a joint venture with Perthshire-based distiller John Fergus & Co, the new plant will begin commercial operations by 2015.

The plant will have a capacity of 4 million liters, and the company plans to double the capacity over the next ten years based on the demand.

The second phase of the project will require an investment of additional £7-10m.

Kyndal currently has operations in 15 countries in Indian sub-continent, West Asia, and Africa. The company also plans to enter the Latin America and the US markets.
