Tetra Pak in partnership with Murray Goulburn and the Australian government, provides an annual donation of 600,000 litres of long life milk to Foodbank, who then distributes it to associated charities and community groups.
Noel Ayre, managing director of Tetra Pak Oceania said that he was very proud of the company’s association with Foodbank. According to Ayre, nearly half of Tetra Pak’s employees volunteered at local Foodbank warehouses in the past year.
“Our partnership with Foodbank is rewarding for all of us and the chance for staff to volunteer is a key part of Tetra Pak’s support,” said Noel.
“The uptake of volunteering by our staff has been outstanding with many Tetra Pak employees undertaking worthy work at the Sydney and Melbourne warehouses for the less fortunate. It has also proven to be an excellent opportunity for staff to spend some time together away from the office,” he said.
John Webster, Foodbank Australia’s CEO said that hunger is a very real problem in Australia.
“Many people might not think that hunger is a problem in a developed nation like Australia, but it is a very real problem, and it’s hidden. One in ten Australians seek food relief at some point, and it’s not just the homeless, but also the elderly, single parents and the working poor,” he said
“Foodbank collects and distributes 25,000 tonnes of food, enough for 32 million meals each year. Milk and dairy products are highly valued because they are healthy, nutrient dense and versatile foods”.
