U.S. canned tuna giant Bumble Bee Foods on Tuesday announced it acquired sushi-quality tuna company Anova Food.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“Bumble Bee Foods’ acquisition of Anova Food will provide growth opportunities for both organizations within the retail and food service channels. The combination of Bumble Bee's leadership position in shelf stable seafood and Anova's portfolio of high-quality frozen tuna and other products will allow customers to benefit from new technologies and innovation from both organizations,” Bumble Bee said in a statement. “Both companies anticipate significant synergies in the business model from a supply chain, resource and operations standpoint, centered on tuna that allows for highly competitive offerings.”
“The acquisition of the premier Anova brand and intellectual property fits well with our own corporate strategy of being the highest quality shelf stable brand in the U.S. market,” said Chris Lischewski, Bumble Bee CEO. “Anova’s commitment to global sustainability and fisheries management is also consistent with Bumble Bee's leadership in this area and made them a great fit to join the Bumble Bee family.”
“The combination of Anova and Bumble Bee enables further growth of our business and enhanced service to our customers," said Darren Zobrist, Anova president. “We are excited to join with Bumble Bee as we continue to expand our business providing high-quality frozen seafood.”
