C&S Wholesale Grocers was awarded $3.6 million in development aid by the state of New York to build a new automated warehouse facility on Long Island.

The grant was among $716 million in state aid announced by Gov. Andrew Cuomo Wednesday. The $130 million proposed facility, to be built in Suffolk County, would employ 400, according to the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council, and would mark the return of C&S to Long Island.

C&S several years ago closed its warehouse in Central Islip, N.Y.

C&S provides grocery distribution to Waldbaums, Pathmark and Stop & Shop stores on Long Island.
