Nigeria was the largest importer of Chinese tomato paste once again last year, increasing its off-take to a record 127,000 tonnes, exports data shows.
Only a decade ago, the country was buying a mere 1,000 tonnes of product, but demand has increased steadily, particularly since 2005. Price contributed to the uptrend in recent years: as of 2013, the price of Chinese paste to Nigeria had fallen by over USD100 on 2008 levels.
