From 2015 onwards, the Dutch government wants all Dutch school canteens to be a 100% healthy, foodwise, and offer the schoolchildren a healthy alternative for the well-known Mars and Snickers.
These two facts have motivated cucumber grower Roel Versteegen from Grashoek, Limburg, Holland, to search for the perfect healthy snack with a tasty bite. For the last two years he has worked tirelessly to find the perfect snack cucumber. He has done so in cooperation with a renowned seed company.
The result is a new variety: Q-key®. The key to a healthy Q-cumber snack alternative. Along with the snack cucumber a unique seasoning mix has been developed together with Verstegen Spices and Sauces. End-consumers can use this for sprinkling or dipping.
The Q-key® only contains 10,4 kCal and is aimed to be sold in retail outlets, school canteens, company restaurants, petrol stations and (airline) catering companies. Restaurants can also use the Q-key® as an entrée, garnish or appetizer.
A lot of market research and tasting panels have gone into the development of the Q-key®. The result is a snack cucumber grown without the use of chemical pesticides, length of around 17cm’s, weight of 70-90 grams. Their size and weight is ideal for automated distributor machines. The cucumbers are individually flowpacked including the spicemix. 40 flowpacked cucumbers per open display box.
The Q-key will be available from the 21st of February to the 10th of November. The shelf-life is: 10 days.
