Mondelēz International, a US-based food and beverage firm, is set to implement new sustainability initiatives, as part of its Call for Well-being strategy.
The initiatives will help the company to significantly expand its worldwide programs, including the new global nutrition targets across its product range.
Call for Well-being will primarily focus on helping consumers make mindful snack choices, partnering with communities to promote healthy lifestyles, securing sustainable agricultural supplies and reducing environmental footprint, and keeping people and products safe.
By 2020, the company aims to increase 'Better Choice' products to 25% of its revenues, lower sodium and saturated fat by 10%, increase whole grains by 25% and individually wrapped options of 200 calories.
Mondelez plans to include front-of-pack calorie information on its products by 2016-end, as well as invest $50m in healthy-lifestyle community partnerships in the coming years.
The company intends to cut 15% of its energy and water use, waste and greenhouse gas emissions from its manufacturing sites by 2015, as well as achieve zero-waste-to-landfill status for 60% of its production sites.
In addition, it expects to achieve third-party food safety certification for all its manufacturing facilities.
