ConAgra Foods plans to shut down two of its manufacturing facilities in western New York by February 2015, putting 400 jobs at risk.
The plants in Dunkirk and Fredonia communities of Chautauqua County will be shut down in phases, the company officials said.
A ConAgra spokesman said that the closures are slated to commence in summer this year.
The move will allow the company to operate more efficiently, he added.
Chautauqua County executive Vince Horrigan said that ConAgra's decision will impact domestic grape growers, who supplied the plant.
The Dunkirk plant produces private-label condiments and sauces, beverage mixes and syrups as well as grape and juice products.
ConAgra plans to shift production from the closure-affected sites to its other manufacturing plants, including those in Buckner, Kentucky.
The company gained ownership of the two sites as part of its acquisition of bakery and cereal products maker Ralcorp in 2013.
