The Mexican Goverpotatonment has approved the regulation that will allow the import of potatoes from the United States, an opportunity for both countries to build trade relations.

The United States Department for Agriculture (USDA) will enforce a specific labelling for its potato shipments to Mexico and will take various requirements into account, according to a press statement issued by the National Potato Council.

The U.S. potato sector, the USDA and the Office of the United States Trade Representative have taken the protocols established by the Mexican Government into consideration with the goal of building trade relations in the fresh potato market. In September 2012, Mexico initiated a process for the expansion of trade between the United States and Mexico. The new protocols were designed to benefit potato producers and consumers in both countries.
