Brazilian melon exports increase first two months of year

Core Tip: The Port of Natal had an 8% increase in container shipments in January and February this year compared with the same period last year.
The Port of Natamelonl had an 8% increase in container shipments in January and February this year compared with the same period last year. According to the Docas do Rio Grande do Norte Company (Codern), 1,832 containers were exported in the first two months of this year, against 1,699 in the same period of 2013.

In January this year, the Port embarked 930 containers, which amounted to 23,946 tons of cargo, 2% more than in January 2013. 902 containers were exported in February 2014, 14% more than the 789 containers exported in the same month in 2013.

The volume in tons shipped in January and February of 2013 amounted to 44,830 tons. This year, Codern has already exported 46,862 tons, which represents a 5% increase.

Melon exports, with 1,151 containers shipped, ranked first in January and February. The second place was for the bananas with 325 containers exported. The mango occupied the third place with 125 containers. Other fruits such as orange, limes and watermelons also left the port for Europe.
