Kemin has announced the publication of a clinical study in Therapeutic Advances in Urology, conducted by principal investigator Aaron Katz, M.D., chairman of urology at Winthrop University Hospital. The study concluded that daily use of 1,000 mg of AssuriTEA, a patent-pending polyphenol blend of select catechins and theaflavins, improved lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and quality of life in men in as little as six weeks.

Conducted over 12 weeks, the randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study not only showed improvement in LUTS but also showed decreases in post-void residual volume, increases in average urinary flow rate, and improvements in quality of life as well as moderation of inflammation. In addition, no gastrointestinal distress or other undesirable side effects commonly associated with some other ingredients were reported.
“This study is significant because it is the first of its kind to show the measurable, urological benefits of combining specific quantities of catechins and theaflavins,” said Katz. “LUTS is one of the most common urologic conditions, affecting a majority of adult men as they age. Currently, some of the alternative nutritional-based approaches for managing men’s urinary function and comfort lack supporting scientific evidence.”
AssuriTEA is described as an exclusive, all-natural ingredient that uses water-extraction methodology to ensure the highest levels of select polyphenols. In addition to the clinical results for men’s health, clinical findings on the antioxidant benefits of AssuriTEA are expected to be published later this year.
