There is harmony on the European pear market. The demand for Conference pears is very constant in all directions, despite the considerable increase in price over the last few weeks, according to the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI).
There are good sales opportunities on the British market for Conference pears of the best quality. Weaker parties are sold in the East and larger specimens go toward Italy. This means there is a positive market course in all European cultivation areas, with fixed, partially increasing prices.
In contrast to this the demand for pears from the Southern Hemisphere is small. Even on the German market, which is dominated by wares from the Southern Hemisphere, there is calm. Whilst Packham's pears are making fixed prices despite a limited demand, there are price concessions at Abate Fetel and Forelle. Despite this, stores have formed. Both the food trade and the professional trade and the markets are showing little buying interest at the moment.
