Dutch dairy company Royal FrieslandCampina N.V. has acquired the activities of Best Cheese Corporation USA, an importer and vendor of specialty cheeses in the US. Together with the acquisition of Jana Foods, announced earlier this month, this agreement is set to further strengthen FrieslandCampina's position on the US consumer market, according to the company. Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Headquartered in New York’s Westchester County, Best Cheese Corporation is an importer and vendor of fine quality specialty cheeses including brands such as Parrano, Robusto, Melkbus and different Gouda styles made from cow, goat or sheep’s milk.
Roel van Neerbos, President of FrieslandCampina Consumer Dairy, explains: “As a part of our transformative strategy, we continue to focus on delivering the best product to serve consumers’ needs. The Americas is a strategic growth market for us. By acquiring Best Cheese and Jana Foods we will be able to grow our cheese business in the region further.”
Willem Jan Rote, former owner Best Cheese, says: “The combination of Best Cheese’s USA position as an established specialty cheese vendor and the strength of FrieslandCampina as the leading supplier of Dutch Cheese, will take the success of our brands Parrano, Robusto and Melkbus to the next level.”
Best Cheese will be fully integrated into the FrieslandCampina Consumer Dairy USA-business. The former shareholders of Best Cheese, among others the Dutch Investment Company Antea, will not continue to be involved in the business.
In August, FrieslandCampina announced the acquisition of the activities of Best Cheese Holland, which is now part of FrieslandCampina.
