"The Spanish still have white garlic from 2013 in their fridges, and they are selling it at a very low price'' says worried Christiane Pieters, President of the National Interprofessional Garlic Association. The 2014 harvest was very average in quantity and has to stand up against Spanish and Chinese competition. As of the 5th June, difficulties within the sector were remarked. An advertising campaign will be set up to remind consumers that garlic is a seasonal product like most vegetables. Efforts also need to be made so that consumers can easily identify the product on the shelves. Christiane Pieters underlines that it is a product that people like, ''it remains popular, in fashion''. The Gers is the largest garlic producer in the South-West and propositions will be closely examined on the 8th July.
