Tate & Lyle, the global provider of ingredients and solutions to the food, beverage and other industries, has unveiled a new zero-calorie, flavoured table-top coffee sweetener prototype. This new formulation demonstrates how it is possible to innovate within the table-top sweetener market with sucralose and in partnership with Tate & Lyle.
Paul Freeman, marketing manager at Tate & Lyle, says: “Demand for flavoured coffee is continually growing across Europe, but to date there has been no real alternative to calorie-heavy syrups or liquid concentrates. Drawing on our extensive knowledge and expertise in developing beverage solutions for European manufacturers, we have created this product to address the issue of giving consumers the sweet treats they demand, while dramatically reducing calorie intake.”
The new concept, which has been designed to appeal to calorie-conscious coffee drinkers and people open to a new taste experience, is made with Tate & Lyle’s world-renowned zero-calorie sweetener, sucralose, and is available in caramel or hazelnut flavours.
The product’s liquid format allows the flavouring to be served one drop at a time to alter the level of sweetness and flavour to meet each individual consumer’s taste preference.
Intended as a coffee enhancer for use at home or on-the-go, the caramel or hazelnut flavoured table-top sweetener has been developed to enable manufacturers to respond to this growth market, while also appealing to consumers’ preference towards products that offer indulgence without guilt.
Formulation experts have over 30 years’ experience in working with sucralose from Tate & Lyle which has been trusted in the development of more than 5,000 products in over 80 countries.
With the sweetening power approximately 600 times that of sugar, sucralose has zero calories, a great taste profile and provides consumers with enhanced flavour, with the added benefit of a lower calorie intake and maintaining a stable sweetness over the product shelf-life.
The application work involved in creating this new beverage concept also highlights the benefits associated with working in partnership with a leading global provider such as Tate & Lyle. It is this sharing of expertise that led to the introduction of its PLUS PROGRAMME- a customisable concept-to-lab-to-market service that offers a valuable partnership to European food and beverage manufacturers by identifying opportunities, improving processes and bringing new, better and more cost effective products to market.
