Doves Farm Foods, the specialist flour mill in the UK, is tapping into the growing trend for artisan bread making by adding Organic Wholemeal Emmer Flour and Organic White Rye Flour to its unique range of heritage flours.
Since 1978, Doves Farm has been at the forefront of reintroducing historic flours to the UK, growing the country’s first spelt crop nearly 20 years ago.
Company founders Michael and Clare Marriage want to expand the repertoire of the British public and encouraging trial of new flours made from ancient grains.
The new Doves Farm Organic Wholemeal Emmer Flour is milled from what is believed to be one of the oldest cultivated grains, dating back 20,000 years.
It has a slightly sweet and creamy flavour and is particularly good in cookies, cakes and muffins but is equally good for baking loaves.
This flour is available in 1kg paper bags and retails for around £3.25.
Also new to the range is the Doves Farm Organic White Rye Flour.
This is naturally low in gluten and easier to knead than dough made with traditional ‘dark’ rye.
White Rye Flour produces a lighter-textured rye bread but can also be used for light and fluffy pancakes, scone and biscuits.
Available in 1kg bags, the Doves Farm Organic White Rye Flour retails for around £1.65.
The new flours, which are suitable for Kosher diets, are available to buy from independent retailers, health food shops and to order on line at www.dovesfarm.co.uk and Ocado.
The Organic Wholemeal Emmer Flour and Organic White Rye Flour complete the artisan flour range from Doves Farm joining Wholemeal Buckwheat Flour, Organic Wholemeal KAMUT Khorasan Flour, Organic English Wholemeal Einkorn Flour, Organic Wholemeal Spelt Flour and Organic White Spelt Flour.
