MOM Brands, the largest family-owned cereal company in the United States, was recently honored by the Utah Labor Commission Utah Occupational Safety and Health Division (Utah OSHA) for the worksite safety and health management system employed at its Tremonton manufacturing facility.

The plant is one of only 13 facilities in Utah to have earned OSHA's prestigious Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) certification.

SHARP recognizes employers that develop and implement innovative workplace health and safety practices, create cultures that embrace safe and healthful workplaces, and serve as models of best practices for other organizations.

Utah Labor Commissioner Sherrie Hayashi presented the certification to MOM Brands executives and employees during a ceremony at the Tremonton facility earlier this month.

"The Tremonton MOM Brands facility is a shining example of a workplace that fosters a safe and healthy environment for its employees," said Hayashi. "We applaud the commitment and efforts shown by MOM Brands leaders and employees in successfully incorporating effective safety and health management practices into their daily work and culture."

"The dedication of our employees to a safe and healthy work environment made this award possible," said Mark Suchan, MOM Brands Tremonton plant manager. "This honor is a true testament to their work. The program has not only become key to our continuous improvement efforts but has also helped us create an even greater sense of teamwork."

To qualify for the award, a company must request a consultation visit from the Utah OSHA Consultation Program, which includes a comprehensive assessment. Employees are actively involved in the process of implementing and maintaining the safety and health management system.

Built in 2003, the MOM Brands facility in Tremonton employs 210 people and manufactures 18 different product families from among the company's portfolio of 103 cereal varieties. The main facility covers 382,000 square feet of space on 101 acres.
