Private equity owners of Hostess Brands are evaluating plans to sell the company, which is valued at over $1.7bn.
Apollo Global Management and C. Dean Metropoulos who bought Hostess Brands for $410m in 2013 have received inquiries over the potential sale from companies.
Unnamed sources also report that Flowers Foods and Grupo Bimbo are in talks to acquire Hostess' bread brands. These firms have already acquired other parts of the Hostess business last year.
Flowers Foods' acquisition included 20 bakeries, 36 depots, as well as Wonder, Nature's Pride, Merita, Home Pride, and Butternut bread brands, while Grupo Bimbo acquired Beefsteak brand as part of the Hostess Brands bankruptcy proceedings.
Earlier in 2013, Hostess Brands secured US Bankruptcy Court approval to sell its Drake's snack cake brand as well as four of its northwest regional bread brands in separate transactions that are approximately worth $58.4m.
Founded in 1925, Hostess Brands provides bakery products. It offers breads, cakes, cup and snack cakes, mini muffins, fruit pies, donut products, and zingers.
