Aguilera pointed out that "it is urgent for new measures to be introduced given the serious crisis that the European fruit and vegetables market continues to suffer after all aid programmes have already concluded."
She said in a statement that while the ban remains in force, the European Union (EU) cannot abandon its producers. "The exceptional measures adopted so far have been necessary and useful, but as expressed by the industry itself, they have been insufficient."
For the Vice president of the Agriculture Committee "it is urgent to amend the Community regulations for measures to arrive on time to all affected products and prevent a collapse in prices," adding that "as long as the ban is in force, the sector needs to continue having access to aid."
