Core Tip: BRAZIL - A Brazilian official presented the government's new Aquaculture Development Plan at a recent meeting in Brasilia.
Secretary of Planning and Planning Aquaculture (Sepoa), Felipe Matias, presented the Aquaculture Development Plan 2020.

The strategy to increase production to 2 million tons, according to the secretary, is to simplify the environmental licensing in the states.

"We will be among the five largest fish producers in the world," he said.

Paraná, São Paulo, and Goiás states, among others, have already held talks with the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture (MPA) on the simplification process for environmental licensing.

Speaking on the second day of the meeting of the Brazilian National Council for Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPE), Mr Matias also said that the Harvest Plan for Fisheries and Aquaculture and simplify the environmental licensing should work together to improve the industries.

"The plan, coupled with a simple licensing process, is the right way to generate employment, income and increased production, which is the priority of the ministry,'' he said.
