Russian Seafood Exports Fall in 2015

Core Tip: RUSSIA - According to preliminary estimates from Russia, shipments of fish, fish products and seafood in January-April 2015 amounted to 540.7 thousand tons.
The figure is 10.4 per cent less than the same period last year.

The exports included 89.3 per cent frozen fish, 6.3 per cent fish fillets and other fish meat, 3.2 per cent crustaceans and molluscs, and 0.4 per cent prepared or preserved fish products.

The reduced exports in January-April was mainly down to finished and tinned fish products, deliveries of which fell by 65.5 per cent compared to the same period in 2014. There was also a decrease in the supply of frozen fish by 11.5 per cent, to 483.2 thousand tons.

Russia's main fish export is frozen pollock, which accounts for 66.1 per cent of fish product exports. The delivery volume of this product in January-April 2015 decreased by 11.5 per cent on the year, amounting to 357.4 thousand tons.

Supplies of frozen herring abroad decreased by 22.2 per cent, with the main buyer countries comprising China, Nigeria, Republic of Korea.

At the same time there was an increase in the export of fish fillets and other fish meat by 5.3 per cent, and crustaceans and molluscs by 20.1 per cent, compared to the same period last year.

The volume of imports of fish products to Russia in January-April 2015 compared to the same period in 2014 decreased by 46.8 per cent and amounted to 161.8 thousand tons.
