The effectiveness of process controls that could potentially affect the safety of vacuum packed smoked fish produced by J & K Smokery Ltd cannot be demonstrated satisfactorily. The issue relates to controlling factors to prevent the growth and toxin production of Clostridium botulinum. Botulinum toxin may cause a serious form of food poisoning called botulism. Although no trace of the toxin has been found in products tested, a recall from customers is being carried out as a precautionary measure.

CUSTOMER INFORMATION

J & K Smokery Ltd has recalled all packs of its vacuum packed smoked fish due to concerns over its procedures in place to control Clostridium botulinum. The FSA has issued a Product Recall Information Notice.

The effectiveness of process controls that could potentially affect the safety of vacuum packed smoked fish produced by J & K Smokery Ltd, cannot be demonstrated satisfactorily. The issue relates to ensuring sufficient controlling factors to prevent the growth and toxin production of the bacterium known as Clostridium botulinum. This may cause a serious form of food poisoning called botulism.

Although no trace of Clostridium botulinum has been found in products tested, the company has recalled all packs of its vacuum packed smoked fish as a precautionary measure.

J & K Smokery Ltd has recalled all affected products. Point-of-sale notices will be displayed by businesses/ stores and mobile fish suppliers which sold the products.

Consumers are advised not to consume these products. Instead, any product should be returned to the
store from where it was bought.

If you have bought any of the above products, do not consume them. Instead, return them to the store or mobile fish supplier where they were purchased from for a full refund.
