Since last winter, general vegetable prices throughout China has been on the rise. Several cold snaps have driven transport costs up, as well as driven down supply.
Such mismatch between supply and demand is the key reason for the rise in prices. As of late, prices of some have already started seeing downward correction.
With the end of Chinese New Year, the demand for vegetables returns to normal. Moreover, while different businesses along the vegetable supply chain gradually open after the holidays, the warmer weather is favourable to production and transportation, these factors boosts supply. With the return of demand-supply equilibrium, prices will stabilise.
