Peru's Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry (Minagri) has projected that farming production will expand by 3.4% in 2016; this is largely due to progress in the livestock and poultry sub-sector (5.7%), as well as agriculture sector performance (1.8%).
In 2016, growth in the agriculture sub-sector will relatively exceed the 1.3% rate registered the year before.
"Potato production is expected to recover after 2015 when it was affected by climate change [...]. This effect is currently disappearing and potatoes, grown in Huanuco, Junin, Ayacucho, Huancavelica and Arequipa, are entering the market," Agrarian Policies Monitoring and Assessment Department Director-General Christian Garay affirmed.
Among other products, which contributed to growth, maca stood out having expanded by 173%.
He stressed the higher yields of grapes (18%) and that of hard yellow corn (17%).
