The Germans appreciate regionally produced food that is healthy and wholesome and if possible fast and uncomplicated. These are the conclusions of the Food Report 2017, commissioned by the German Minister of Food and Agriculture, about the dietary habits in Germany.
The taste and origin of the product are two factors consumers seriously consider while shopping. However, only 20% of the respondents cook every day, due to lack of time and/or interest. This results in an increase in meals such as pasta, frozen pizza and other ready meals. The recommendation to eat at least 5 servings of fruit and vegetables, the famous “five-a-day“, seems impossible to many consumers.
So the consumers’ insecurity increased, now the current recommendation is at least ten-a-day. However, if you look closely at the total quantity recommended in the new publications, the recommendation is only slightly higher than the current daily recommended intake of 650 grams of fruit and vegetables.
Our tip: Don give up hope and continue with the tried and tested “five-a-day“ and aim for plenty fruit and vegetables with quick ready meals, or add them yourself. Just add an apple as dessert, put rocket salad on your pizza, choose vegetable sticks as a side dish, or serve an instant salad or another convenience product with a high vegetable content.
