The Citrus Growers Association of Peru (Procitrus) stated that Peruvian mandarin exports in 2015 amounted to 100,800 metric tons, which account for 88 percent of the country's total citrus shipments.

"The satsuma, clementine, Murcott, and Minneola tangelo mandarins have become the stars of Peruvian citrus exports," they said.

Total citrus exports amounted to 115,122 tons and generated a total of 123 million dollars in foreign exchange.

"These results make us the most important mandarin exporter in the region and the seventh biggest supplier of this wonderful fruit worldwide; not to mention that Peruvian citrus in general (mandarins, tangelos, and oranges) are within five Peruvian fruit and vegetable products most demanded worldwide and that they are expected to grow by an estimated 15 percent in 2016," said Procitrus.

The main buyers of Peruvian mandarins in 2015 were the United States (41.8 million dollars), the United Kingdom (29.6 million), the Netherlands (16.6 million), and Canada (11.4 million of dollars).

Procitrus is organizing the IX International Seminar on Citrus which will be held on April 19 and 20. There, producers will share current information on the Peruvian citrus industry, new varieties, strategic markets, technical issues, health, and research.
