The New Jersey-based Gerber has recalled four batches of organic pouch foods for infants, citing a defect in packaging that could lead to product spoilage during transport and handling.
The company has voluntarily recalled two batches of Gerber Organic 2nd Foods Pouches - Pears, Carrots & Peas and two batches of Gerber Organic 2nd Foods Pouches - Carrots, Apples & Mangoes.
The products have best use dates of 12 July 2016, 13 July 2016, and 14 July 2016. The company is working to recall the products from offline and online retailers.
Gerber is providing replacement coupons for consumers who bought those products. It has advised consumers not to use them.The company said that consumers may see pouches as bloated in some cases, with product inside becoming off taste or odor.
There are three cases of consumers experiencing temporary gastrointestinal symptoms after the consumption of those products. But the company said that it is yet to confirm whether the symptoms are due to use of these products.
Gerber said that the recall will not impact its other products in pouches, other products or any products sold outside the US.
Gerber president and CEO Gary Tickle quoted by Detroit Free Press as saying that:"We are proactively working to retrieve all remaining pouches of the affected batches that fail to meet our quality standards.
"Speaking as a father, I understand that giving your little one the best is the most important thing. That's why the quality of our baby foods is our top priority.
"I sincerely apologize for any concern this may have caused. For more than 90 years we have put babies first in everything we do and you can trust that we will continue to do so."
Earlier this month, Materne North America recalled few GoGo Squeez applesauce pouches after noticing a possibility of adulteration.
