According to Ricardo Marquez Portillo, president of Unifrut, the Ministry of Economy will issue its final decision in the tariff case established against US apples in early 2016.
On January 6 the Federal Ministry of Economy issued a preliminary ruling, which was published in the Official Gazette, stating that US apples had to pay countervailing duties.
This ruling in favor of domestic producers led to an increase in prices of up to 3 pesos per kilogram of apple, which benefited producers directly and gave stability to the sector.
In March, Marquez Portillo said, the public hearing regarding the dumping of apples was held in Mexico City. Exporters, importers and domestic producers participated in said hearing.
Now, we are waiting for the Ministry of Economy to review the file so it can issue a final ruling in June or July, which is expected to be in favor of domestic producers.
