With the gradual delisting of strawberries, cherries start to dominate Chinese fruit markets. During this season, cherries from America and Spain swarm to Qingdao markets.
Different from the sea shipment of Chilean cherries, American cherries are delivered to Qingdao city by air, which enables its fast delivery within 3 days. As a result, American cherries are fresher and remain at a higher price position.
In recent years, the major cherry growing areas of the world are targeting the Chinese market. According to the data recently released by Chilean Fruit Exporters Association, Chile exported a total of 83,298 tons cherry to China during the first quarter this year, and China becomes Chilean cherry's largest buyer by its 84% export share. Looking back at the Australian cherry, its export volume increased 30% during 2014-2015, and China has become Australia's third largest export market for cherries.
